The Mediterranean diet is one of the most popular diet nowadays. The diet plan is said to be easy to follow as it encourages the dieters to consume some wine and has less restrictive food compare to the other plan.

Many medical professional, nutritionist and dieters have positive opinion that the Mediterranean diet is the perfect plan to achieve an ideal weight, keep your blood pressure low and reduce the risk of heart disease. Do you believe it?

Let’s see what the basic of Mediterranean diet plan : fresh fruits and vegetable rule supreme, a huge amount of vegetarian dishes traditionally prepared with fresh produce (no frozen, no canned etc), a lot of fish, some poultry and very little beef or pork. Well, It does sound very healthy. The fact is, they do have fruits and vegetables in season all year round. As we all know, this is not the case in North Europe and much of the US. And nor is it likely for anyone living here to find organic produce at reasonable prices. So The true Mediterranean diet plan can be very expensive, yea it is very expensive and need a long long time.

In Mediterranean diet, olive oil is used to reduce cholesterol. The oil is known as the best source of Phenolic compounds. But actually you can also find Phenolic compounds in berries, prunes, red grapes and red grape juice, kiwifruit, currants, apples and apple juice, and tomatoes.

The point is, you have to eat fresh produce meal. But we know Mediterranean lifestyle is not urban lifestyle that runs at faster pace. So there must be something hard to follow. Last but not least, reducing stress can help keep your heart healthy and can certainly cut down on the amount of stress-induced eating that we do, whether or not we eat Mediterranean food.
